Residence Life

Living in residence is fun, convenient and will help you become a member of our community. Meet new friends, live minutes from class, get involved and enjoy your new home away from home.

Campus Life

SMU Campus Life

Everyone has a different lifestyle. Our residence allows you to select living options that best suit your needs and personal preferences.

Choose between co-ed and same gender floors, single, super single, double or apartment style rooms.

Loyola Residence

A 22-storey high rise, each floor contains four suites, each with one double and four single rooms with semi-private washrooms. Senior Suites are available for senior level students who prefer a private room and the option of cooking their own meals.

* Majority of classes are in Loyola Academic which is below and annexed to the Loyola Residence.

Therefore, your classes are just a short elevator ride away. Loyola lounges also include a kitchenette.

Vanier Residence

A low-rise building, each floor has a common lounge and three suites, with two single and two double rooms and semi-private washrooms.

* Small residence, big community. Vanier House is the smallest of the three residences and has a friendly and close knit community.

Rice Residence

A 17-storey high-rise with apartment style rooms. Some apartments have two double rooms with a shared kitchen, bathroom and living/dining area, while other apartments have three rooms (super-single or single) with a shared kitchen and bathroom.

* Rice is a great place for students who want independence, with the convenience of living on campus.

Many students like the appeal of being able to cook their own food, but don’t forget to wash the dishes!

The cost of your residence depends on your room choice and meal plan selection. Follow the link below for a breakdown of residence fees /a9e/webfiles/ResidenceFees2013-14.pdf

Experiential Learning

Give your degree a competitive edge through field work and research, co-op work terms, volunteering and studying abroad.

Hands on

SMU Hands On

We are passionate about helping students develop their abilities by taking all that they have learned in the classroom, and putting it into practise.

Co-operative Education

Gain the skills employers look for by alternating formal academic studies with three paid work terms. Co-op allows students to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to real work situations. Students graduate with work experience, gain valuable connections and insight into the work world. Saint Mary’s has the largest selection of majors with co-op options than any other university east of Montreal.

Study abroad

Students have the chance to study abroad, do international fieldwork, be part of an exchange, and even score an internship abroad. Find an international opportunity in over 25 countries that works well for you.

Research

We provide students with numerous opportunities to take part in interesting and meaningful research, often within their first year of study.

Volunteering

Explore your interests and goals while contributing to the community. For volunteer opportunities visit the Career Services and their Volunteer Fair.

Co-curricular Record

Set yourself apart from other students with a formal record of your volunteer hours, leadership roles, society and team sport involvement, academic and non-academic awards. The Co- curricular Record keeps an official report on your extracurricular involvement and achievements.
